This was the tenth year of this partnership with Operation Florian personnel in Bulawayo. The aim is to help provide fire equipment and training to the Bulawayo Fire and Ambulance Service and neighbouring Fire Brigades. On this mission we have six students from UCLAN assisting the Operation Florian team. This is a vital tool in developing these individuals as potential professionals in the field of “Fire”.

Operation Florian was invited by Save the Children to work in Lebanon for 3 weeks in August 2016 to undertake a fire risk reduction project in several informal settlements to reduce fire risks for Syrian refugees after a series of fatal fires.

This project aim was to build on the success of previous phases, continuing to improve training standards and ensure the effective utilisation of donated equipment and vehicles. Students from the University of Central Lancashire were sponsored to join the mission and supported the training by shadowing experienced UK volunteer trainers. They also took part in activities, such as, community fire safety campaigns and visits.

Operation Florian were requested by UK charity “Belarus Aid” to carry out a scoping visit to the Borisov Region in Belarus to see if they could assist in the donation of fire service equipment and PPE.
